Thank you to everyone who voted in Petersfield on 4th May. Thanks to the other candidates Emmanuel Carraud, Joshua Morris-Blake and Paul Roper, who also stood in our democratic election for a seat on Cambridge City Council.
I’m grateful to have been returned as your councillor. Thank you for every vote. Thank you for telling me about your lives and issues over the last few weeks. Thanks for listening to me and reading my leaflets.
Cambridge is an amazing place, and Petersfield is a microcosm of what this city is.
We have Cambridge’s main train station and potholed roads; some of the world’s biggest companies and lots of great, thriving local shops; many places of faith and community centres run by the community.
We have beloved trees, micro-community gardens, the Botanic Gardens, allotments and chalk streams.
We have many schools and great pubs, and some fine buildings that are studied by architecture students from across the world.
We have homes, friends, street groups, but too many residents are struggling with loneliness, mental health, drugs, inequality, and other difficulties. Many are finding life hard as rent, electricity, and food prices soar, and help seems a long way way
We have opportunities to take and issues to overcome, especially as we face the challenges create by accelerating climate change and biodiversity collapse.
As your ward councillor, along with Mike Davey and Richard Robertson, and Richard Howitt on the county council, I will do all I can for Petersfield and Cambridge.
I will work with you day after day, month after month, and year after year to do what we can here, and to influence where I can elsewhere, in Cambridge and more widely. Together we will make the small and large changes that you want as individuals and as communities.
